Town residents and business owners will be asked to vote on the Burn Building/Training Facility on a referendum held on October 4. Polls will be open from 6am to 8 pm at Bethany Town Hall.
A group of citizens have repeatedly asked First Selectman Paula Cofrancesco to have a simple up or down vote on the November 7th ballot. We asked that she use the language the town attorney gave to the Planning and Zoning Commission. The language could have been:
Do the Electors of the Town of Bethany approve the proposal of the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department to construct a Training Facility on the property in the immediate proximity of the existing Fire House? Yes or No
Unfortunately, Paula Cofrancesco chose to use this:
SHALL THE TOWN OF BETHANY ENTER INTO A SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE LEASE DATED FEBRUARY 2013 BETWEEN THE TOWN OF BETHANY AND THE BETHANY VOLUNTEER FIREMAN’S ASSOCIATION, INC. TO PERMIT THE RELOCATION OF THE STRUCTURE SHOWN AS THE PROPOSED FUTURE TRAINING TOWER ON THAT CERTAIN MAP DATED OCTOVER 27, 2004, AS REVISED, AND ENTITLED “BETHANY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS, 765 AMITY ROAD, BETHANY, CONNECTICUT,” TO THE AREA SHOWN AS THE PROPOSED FIRE TRAINING FACILITY ON THAT CERTAIN MAP DATED FEBRUARY 27, 2023, AND ENTITLED “PROPOSED SITE PLAN, BETHANY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, BETHANY AIRPORT PARCELL, 755 AMITY
ROAD, BETHANY CONNECTICUT”? Yes or No
Vote No if you prefer to have this type of facility built in a more industrial location. It’s 100% OK to vote no and still support the Bethany Firemen. Many of us believe that this is simply not the right location for a regional fire training facility. Just because the BVFD received a grant does not mean we need to build it here.
Vote Yes if you want the Burn Building/ Training Facility built near the current Fire Department headquarters in Bethany.
We encourage you to vote No on October 4th .
